Zozibini Tunzi was crowned Miss Universe in the United States on Sunday. This was the 68th Miss Universe pageant and Tunzi is the third South African to win the crown.

Margaret Gardiner was crowned Miss Universe in 1978 and Demi-Leigh Peters won the pageant in 2017.

The pageant was hosted by veteran American comedian and talk show host, Steve Harvey.

Tunzi, a native of the Eastern Cape, currently lives in Cape Town but will now move to New York for the duration of her reign.

Tunzi entered the Miss South Africa competition in 2017 but did not make it to the final, but this year she made it to the final round and won the competition, to become the reigning Miss South Africa.
