A man was arrested last week for pointing a laser at planes trying to land at Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport in Florida.

Charlie James Chapman Jr. is also accused of pointing a laser at the police helicopter that responded to the complaint that he was harassing aircraft.

According to local police, Chapman was spotted by the police helicopter on a forklift near the runway, and the helicopter crew requested police to surround the area.

Police tasered Chapman after he picked up a hammer and ‘made a striking motion’ when they approached him.

The police say a laser pointer was found in his pocket after he was arrested.

One of the pilots at whom Chapman is alleged to have shone the laser was caught in the eye by the beam and is reportedly having vision problems as a result.

Chapman is facing charges of aggravated assault, pointing a laser at a pilot and resisting arrest.
