Mbali Ntuli, an erstwhile Democratic Alliance (DA) youth leader widely seen as a face of an up-and-coming generation in the party, has announced her intention to mount a challenge for the federal leadership of the party.

Ntuli, aged 31, is currently a member of the provincial legislature in KwaZulu-Natal.

She indicated in a message to representatives of the party that she was disturbed by the difficulties in which the party found itself, and the losses that it had suffered in the last election. She said that the DA was no longer offering hope to the country – words which appear to echo those of former DA leader Mmusi Maimane, who said that ‘the DA is not the vehicle best suited to take forward the vision of building One South Africa for All.’

A new leader for the DA will be elected later this year.
