National Assembly Speaker Thandi Modise has told journalists she will not entertain disruptions to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Thursday.

She was responding to speculation about the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) disrupting Ramaphosa after the party had said it would do so if Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan was still in his post.

Modise made it plain the SONA address was the sole item on the agenda, according to a report on News24.

‘That is the only thing we’ll entertain,’ she was quoted as saying.

Modise said the theme of Thursday’s event was ‘Following up on our commitments: making your future work better’.

This was intended to underscore ‘the character of a people’s Parliament which the Constitution implores us to entrench and deepen democracy as well as improve the quality of life of all South Africans’.
