A South African couple living in Dubai have completed a marathon – on the flat of their balcony.
According to BusinessLive Collin and Hilda Allin completed 2 100 laps of their 20-m balcony, equivalent to 42.2 km, the length of a standard marathon. The duo completed the ‘marathon’ in just over five hours.
The couple streamed their efforts on the internet.
Collin said that he would be looking to organize a ‘bigger, global and more inclusive run’ to help people who are in lockdown to exercise and help people not feel isolated.
The couple are not the first to think of running a marathon at home. Frenchman Elisha Nochomovitz reportedly also ran a marathon on his balcony, although at 7m his balcony is substantially smaller than what the Allins could enjoy.
Dubai is not under full lockdown but did impose a night-time lockdown from Thursday to Sunday to allow for public areas and transportation to be sanitized. The emirate as also been encouraging people to stay at home to help stop the spread of the virus.
