Andile Lungisa, the controversial ANC councillor from Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB), has fought back against attempts to suspend him from the party.

In August Lungisa was informed that he would be suspended and that he had to stand down as a councillor, but he has now lodged a complaint with the party’s provincial secretary, Lulama Ngcukayitobi.

Lungisa claims that regional task team co-ordinator for the metro, Luyolo Nqakula, has been working with the DA to topple the coalition government in NMB, which the ANC is a part of.

Lungisa said that there was a vendetta against him in the party and that he was being ‘hunted, harassed, and purged.’

Nqakula said that Lungisa’s claims were a figment of his imagination.

Lungisa has also been convicted for aggravated assault after he hit a DA councillor over the head with a water jug in a heated municipal council meeting in 2018.
