Scott Anthony Massa, 51, allegedly attempted to burn down his house in Tampa Bay, Florida.
Massa was reported to have thrown a bucket of flammable accelerant through the window of his own home at about 5:40 in the morning, last Sunday.
The accelerant is reported to have ignited as he threw it and he caught fire.
After putting himself out, Massa fled the scene.
He was later spotted by local police at a nearby hospital as he attempted to seek treatment for his wounds.
The house did not catch fire.
According to reporting by the New York Post he remains hospitalized and police are trying to determine what charges he should face, if any.
It is unclear why he was attempting to set the house on fire.
