Cricket South Africa (CSA) has fired its former company secretary, Welsh Gwaza, who had been suspended since the end of last year.

Gwaza was dismissed with immediate effect on a number of charges, including gross insubordination and breaches of the Companies Act, according to News24.

Gwaza was first suspended at the end of last year and was finally dismissed on Thursday, following months of disciplinary hearings.

In addition, Gwaza was found guilty on a number of lesser charges, including the irregular appointment of consultants and  ‘misconduct’ in representations between CSA and cricket’s global governing body, the International Cricket Council. Gwaza and his legal team were also accused of trying to drag out the proceedings for as long as possible, often claiming to be unavailable for various hearings.

CSA has found itself in rough seas in recent years, with maladministration plaguing the organisation, but this could be an indication that it is finally cleaning house.
