People aged between 12 and 17 will be able to get vaccinated against Covid-19 from Wednesday.

According to the Department of Health this will make an additional six-million people eligible for the jab.

Vaccinations will not be done at schools for the moment but those aged between 12 and 17 will be able to go to any public or private vaccination site to get the vaccine.

People in this age group will only receive one dose of the Pfizer vaccine. The minister of health, Joe Phaahla, said that experts were determining whether heart inflammation could occur in rare cases after the second dose.

People aged between 12 and 17 will not need parental consent to get the jab, as under certain conditions people in this age group can access certain medical treatments without the permission of their parents.
