A Florida man was charged last week for allegedly shooting down a law enforcement drone that was assisting police in the search for a burglar.

Wendell Goney, who is a convicted felon with 29 previous felonies, told police he shot down the drone because lately drones had been “harassing him”. Convicted felons are not legally allowed to own guns in Florida and he allegedly admitted to police that he did not own the firearm he used legally.

According to police they had deployed the drone whilst searching a 10-acre property for a burglary suspect when it was suddenly downed by gunfire from a .22 caliber rifle when police went to investigate the gunfire Goney confessed.

Goney is facing charges of illegal possession of a firearm and destruction of an aircraft, if found guilty he could face 30 years in prison.

He is awaiting trial.
