A report in City Press has confirmed that the African National Congress remains in severe financial distress with some employees having not been paid since August.

The current leadership of the ANC was the ‘worst’ ever, according to unnamed staff members.

ANC staffers are demanding a binding written commitment from the ANC’s senior leadership to be paid what they are owed, and for the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu) to be recognised at their union.

Mvusi Mdala, a representative of the staff said that since the staff had returned to work to assist with the local government elections, they had not spoken to ANC treasurer-general Paul Mashatile or any of his senior colleagues.

The ANC has launched initiatives to raise money, such as a crowd-funding campaign. While the salaries of some junior employees have been paid, the situation remains dire. Mdala, clearly frustrated said: ‘They did not discuss anything with us to say this is how much [money] we have accumulated … it is because they do not care.’
