Gauteng recorded 94 farm attacks between 1 October 2020 and 30 November 2021. There were eight farm murders in the province over this period.

This is according to information obtained through a parliamentary question to the Minister of Police in Parliament.

The attacks reflected a varied selection of crimes, most frequently (though not exclusively) involving burglary.

No suspects have been identified in 54 of the farm attacks, and 32 of these were listed as ‘under investigation’. One was classified as ‘false’, presumably meaning that no crime had actually occurred. In seven cases, suspects were arrested, although in one of these the case was withdrawn.

Regarding the murders, three suspects have been arrested in connected with one case – dating from late 2020 in Hammanskraal – while the others remain under investigation.
