The Public Investment Corporation has hailed the appointment of Nonkululeko Nyembezi as Chairperson of the Standard Bank Group. She will take office at the beginning of June.

In a statement, the PIC said: ‘Ms Nyembezi’s appointment as a female black Chair of a major commercial bank is a significant milestone with regards to transformation. The PIC welcomes the commitment to diversity shown by Standard Bank with the progression of women at the highest decision-making level. We further recognise the positive continued efforts of empowering and hiring black talent within the group.’

It went on to praise Standard Bank as a leader in transformation and said that it had set an important benchmark for transformation in a company’s strategies.

The PIC is mandated to invest money collected within the public service, such as the Government Employees Pension Fund.
