A student at Stellenbosch University has been suspended – he is under investigation and could face expulsion – for having urinated in a fellow student’s room.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, a student named Theuns du Toit entered the room of Babalo Ndwayana and urinated on his belongings, including a laptop.

The incident was captured on video. Du Toit appears to be under the influence of alcohol and says that he is waiting for someone.

‘It was traumatising and I feel like my dignity was taken away,’ Ndwayana said. Nevertheless, he was willing to forgive Du Toit.

An online petition, terming the incident a ‘racially motivated attack’ and calling for Du Toit’s expulsion had reportedly garnered some 27 000 signatures by midday yesterday.

The university says that the issue is being investigated and that neither expulsion nor criminal charges are excluded.
