An MP for the Conservative Party in the UK has been arrested on charges of sexual assault and rape.

The man has not been named yet, but the offences are alleged to have occurred in London between 2002 and 2009.

A spokesperson for the London Metropolitan Police was quoted as saying that the man had been arrested on charges of: ‘indecent assault, sexual assault, rape, abuse of position of trust, and misconduct in public office’.

The Conservative Party said that they had asked the unnamed MP not to attend Parliament while the investigation is being conducted.

This is the second scandal to hit the Tories in recent weeks, with another Tory MP, Neil Parish, being accused of watching pornography in the House of Commons.
