The embattled Conservative – or Tory – Party in the United Kingdom suffered another blow this week when the party’s deputy chief whip resigned.

Chris Pincher resigned on Thursday after a drunken incident where he said in a letter to Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, that he had ‘embarrassed myself and other people’ in a private members’ club in London.

Reports in British newspapers alleged that Pincher had gotten very drunk and groped two men at the club. Pincher had previously been accused of making unwanted advances on a male Tory colleague in 2017 but was cleared of any wrongdoing.

Pincher is likely to remain as an MP, sources said.

Pincher’s resignation is the latest in a series of setbacks for the Tories. It lost two recent parliamentary by-elections held in the UK. In addition, Oliver Dowden, the chairman of the party, also resigned following the two by-election reversals.
