The director of communications at the Department of Health, Popo Maja, has been charged with corruption in connection with the R140 million tender awarded to Digital Vibes to provide communication services for the controversial National Health Insurance scheme, News24 reports.
Maja is alleged to have been given two bribes amounting to R15 000.
Maja appeared in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Wednesday morning after handing himself over to police.
News24 reports that Maja has been charged with two counts of corruption for his alleged role in awarding a contract worth more than R140 million to Digital Vibes to provide communication services to the department for the NHI programme.
