Byu Har, who performs under the name Min Oat Myanmar, has been found guilty of criticising the military government of Myanmar and has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
In a livestream with his fans, he called members of the government incompetent and fools, saying that electricity supply was better under civilian rule.
Myanmar, which has been ruled by military dictators for much of its post-independence history, had its civilian government overthrown in 2021 by the military: a move which reignited the civil war which the country has faced for decades since independence.
The military government now faces a variety of rebel groups who have control over significant areas of the country, as well as a number of ethnic separatist movements which have a long history of battling the military.
