Lula da Silva, the President of Brazil, has said that his country’s membership of the International Criminal Court (ICC) needs to be reviewed.

Lula was quoted as saying: ‘I want to know why the US, India and China didn’t sign the ICC treaty and why our country signed it.’

Next year’s G20 summit is due to be held in Brazil and Brazilian authorities could be obligated to arrest Russian President, Vladimir Putin, if he attended. The ICC issued an arrest warrant for Putin in March, due to his alleged involvement in war crimes.

BusinessLive quoted Lula as saying: ‘If Putin decides to join [2024’s summit], it is the judiciary’s power to decide [on a possible arrest] and not my government.’
