The Hawks in Mbombela, Mpumalanga reportedly arrested a 36-year-old man for allegedly inciting public violence on TikTok.

News24 reports that the man allegedly called for the President’s removal and for the country to be shut down.

According to Hawks spokesperson Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi, the man said: “The country must be shut down, and the President must be removed.”

Sekgotodi said: “He was arrested, charged and detained pending his first court appearance on Monday [today] in the Nelspruit Magistrates’ Court.”

The man was facing charges of incitement of violence and contravention of Section 14 of the Cybercrimes Act, which reads: “Any person who discloses, by means of an electronic communication, a data message to a person or group of persons or the public in general with the intention to incite violence shall be guilty as charged.”
