Hundreds of pro-Palestinian supporters marched on Parliament demanding that South Africa cut all ties with Israel.
The marchers also demanded that Parliament consider and adopt an anti-apartheid bill to target those who supported countries like Israel.
The march follows Israel’s latest military attack on other countries in the region like Lebanon.
Demonstrators called for a boycott and the expulsion of Israeli diplomats from the country.
One such supporter is Lamiez Ebrahim, who believes that sanctions are the only way.
“This the main thing hitting them where it hurts. Money to them matters, so we’ve already been doing it for months where we’re boycotting all their products,” said Ebrahim.
Meanwhile, the Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF MP) Nazier Paulsen also supported the call.
Paulsen said: “Boycotts, divesting and sanctions and we have to lead that our history dictates that South Africa has to lead the programme of boycotts, sanctions and divestment.”
The organisers of the march have also urged Parliament to constitute a committee on apartheid to consider complaints and allegations of apartheid made by individuals or groups that support Israel.
