A vaccine trial for the Ebola virus has begun in Uganda.
The first participant received a dose of the vaccine on Monday and is currently in isolation, according to the BBC.
While a vaccine exists for the so-called “Zaire” strain of the Ebola virus, one doesn’t exist for the “Sudan” strain.
The Ebola virus causes a haemorrhagic fever, and kills about 50% of the people it infects in outbreaks.
Uganda is currently fighting an outbreak of the “Sudan” strain of the Ebola virus. A previous outbreak of the same virus strain in 2022 in Uganda resulted in the deaths of more than 70 people.
