Forest Green Rovers have made English soccer history in being the first men’s professional side to appoint a female boss.
Hannah Dingley has been Forest Green Rovers’ academy manager for almost four years since taking over when the club joined the EFL, the BBC reports
Dingley has been named as the team’s new caretaker boss, making her the first woman to manage a professional men’s team in English football.
The League Two side sacked Duncan Ferguson last week after just six months with him in charge.
Thirty-nine-year-old Dingley is quoted as saying: ‘I’m really excited for this next step of my career… I am grateful for the opportunity to step up and lead such a progressive and forward-thinking club.’
Club chairman Dale Vince said: ‘It’s perhaps telling for the men’s game that in making this appointment on merit, we’ll break new ground – and Hannah will be the first female head coach in English [men’s] football.’
