A new poll conducted by the Social Research Foundation (SRF) shows that the ANC is in serious danger of losing KwaZulu-Natal in next year’s national and provincial elections.
The poll surveyed nearly 2 500 voters and was conducted in August and September.
The SRF, which is headed by former IRR CEO, Frans Cronje, found that if 66% of voters in the province cast a ballot next year the ANC would win 40%, followed by the IFP at 26%, with the DA third at 18%. The EFF would be the fourth biggest party in the province, with 8%.
Gareth van Onselen, whose polling company, Victory Research, conducted the poll, said that it was likely that turnout would be even lower, which would harm the ANC further. If about 60% of voters cast a ballot, the ANC would win under 40% of the vote in the province.
Van Onselen said that the IFP and DA were showing signs of growth, while the EFF was remaining stagnant.
No other party polled above 5%, with only the NFP and ACDP having the support of more than 1% of those polled.
If the polling results are reflected in election results next year, the ANC will be in serious danger of being relegated to the opposition benches in KwaZulu-Natal by a coalition.
