A clerk at the Lulekani Magistrates’ Court in Limpopo was convicted of fraud on Thursday. She had been misappropriating money meant for child support.

Goodness Tintswalo Mthombeni worked as a maintenance clerk at the court in later 2013. As part of her responsibilities, she was meant to direct maintenance payments to their beneficiaries. She pocketed the funds and processed bogus paperwork to create the impression that payments had been made. Auditors uncovered the scheme, and she was arrested in April 2014.

Nearly ten years later, she has been convicted and will be sentenced at a later date.

A police spokesman said that the case was a warning to corrupt officials that justice would find them.
