Cheering broke out wherever South Africans had gathered yesterday when the final whistle blew on the Springboks vs Wales game in Yokohama.

South Africa will now face England in the Rugby World Cup final.

Bok Handre Pollard was the key figure in securing the South Africans’ hard-won 19-16 victory over Wales. His was the decisive penalty four minutes from the end of the match.

Commented South Africa coach Rassie Erasmus: ‘We’re in the final of the World Cup… but that’s only half way there. We’d love to win the World Cup.’

He added: ‘We play a class England team in the final now, but we’re there. We’ve got a chance now and we might go all the way. You never know.’

South Africa was up 9-6 at half-time, but Wales rallied in the second half to equalise the score at 16-16 with a quarter of an hour to go. The Springboks clinched victory in the closing minutes of the match.
