The Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) has tabled a motion in Parliament to debate the impact of the government’s Affirmative Action (AA) and Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) policies.

The party said the ‘current crises at Eskom and municipalities are direct consequences of incompetent officials who were appointed as a result of race-based policy’.

The motion was tabled during a session of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP).

Armand Cloete, an FF Plus MP in the NCOP, said: ‘The so-called ‘brain drain’ of experts from South Africa is destroying the economy and the consequent lack of expertise is paralysing our economy.’

Concern about the government’s race-based empowerment policies was ‘further substantiated by the statement made by Capitec’s chief executive officer, Gerrie Fourie, this past week that BEE only benefits a select elite’.

He said the policies ‘are not promoting an inclusive economy’, but were ‘causing great damage’.
