AB de Villiers, the South African batsman, has once again announced that he would be open to returning to international cricket.

De Villiers, widely regarded as one of South Africa’s best players and still plying his trade on the world T20 circuit, announced his retirement from international cricket in 2018, which surprised many observers.

De Villiers, who is currently in Australia, playing in the Big Bash League, told the website cricket.com.au, that he would be open to playing for South Africa again, especially with an eye on the upcoming T20 World Cup.

This is not the first time De Villiers has said he would like to return to the green and gold, having made himself available for last year’s fifty-over World Cup.

Proteas captain Faf du Plessis, a former schoolmate of De Villiers’s, has also said that he has spoken to De Villiers about returning to play for South Africa.

South African cricket has been in turmoil for some time, with the suspension of the CEO Thabang Moroe over claims of maladministration. The return of De Villiers could be a much-needed boost to a team which has been struggling over the past 18 months.
