A Florida man out on bail for alleged child sex abuse set up a crowd-funding campaign to pay for his efforts to evade the law.

He had already spent time in jail, but, having been granted bail, he allegedly cut off his ankle bracelet and went into hiding.

Keith Morris Smith jr. set up a GoFundMe fundraiser titled ‘Trying to be Free’, in the description of which he claimed that he would ‘die in prison’, that he had no assets because ‘I sold everything of value to get out of jail after fighting the case for over a year’ against ‘a corrupt establishment’ and that he planned to flee the country.

Smith is facing multiple charges, including committing a sex crime on a child between the ages of 12 and 16.

The fundraiser was active for three days before it was removed from GoFundMe for violating their terms of service. It had raised no money.

Police are still searching for Smith.
