The People’s Republic of China (PRC) has placed restrictions on various foreign companies in retaliation for these brands expressing concern over the treatment of ethnic Uighurs in the PRC’s western province of Xinjiang.

The restrictions are probably an attempt by the PRC to hit back, after the EU, US, Canada and the UK placed sanctions on officials they claim are linked to human rights abuses in Xinjiang.

The online shops of H&M, Nike, Burberry, Adidas and Converse have all been blocked on the Chinese internet, and it is no longer possible to order taxis to take you to the physical stores of these companies in China.

Beijing denies it has committed any abuses and has retaliated against the sanctions with sanctions of its own, the latest round being targeted at companies and individuals in the UK.
