Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed they had attacked Saudi Arabian energy and military infrastructure on Friday with 18 armed drones. The Saudi energy ministry confirmed that a projectile had hit a petrol distribution site and caused a fire.

These attacks are the latest on Saudi Arabia after it intervened in the civil war in Yemen in 2015 to prevent the Iranian-supported Houthis from seizing control of the country from the internationally recognised government.

The latest attacks come as Saudi Arabia presents a new peace agreement that would seek to end the civil war. The war has seen the Houthis capture the area around Yemen’s capital and the regions containing most of its population, whilst its internationally-recognised government has been forced into the south of the country.

The civil war and Saudi-led blockade of Houthi areas has led to an enormous humanitarian crisis and famine, one of the worst in decades.
