Former mayor of Tshwane, Solly Msimanga, now representing the Democratic Alliance in the Gauteng provincial legislature, was beaten up by an unknown man for allegedly owing him R1.4 million.

The incident took place on Thursday afternoon inside a factory in Ekurhuleni.

The altercation was filmed on camera and the video clip went viral on social media.

In the video, Msimanga was speaking on the phone while his mouth was bleeding, there was also a cut around his eye.

The man taking the video pointed his finger at Msimanga and called him a liar and a thief.

Although no punches were thrown  in the video, both men suggest that the altercation was caught on camera by someone. The unidentified man also mentioned a firearm, which was not seen on the video.

Msimanga told The Citizen that he was having a pleasant day visiting his cousin, and that he does not know the man who attacked him.

The man, accompanied by a group of people, reportedly showed up at Msimanga’s cousin’s place of business to collect items and that’s when things turned violent.

“He is in a partnership with my cousin. They know each other and I don’t know him. [My injuries] are not that bad. They just wanted to embarrass me by recording it,” said Msimanga.

According to Msimanga, the police arrested the suspect on Thursday and he is still deciding whether he will be pressing charges.
