Age has not dimmed Queen Elizabeth’s sense of humour, judging by her wry question to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson during an evidently interminable round of photo shoots at the G7 summit in Cornwall, England.

As she settled herself in her chair – flanked by Germany’s Angela Merkel and France’s Emmanuel Macron on her right, and, on her left, Boris Johnson and US President Joe Biden – the Queen asked with sublime dispassion: ‘Are you supposed to be looking as if you’re enjoying yourself?’

Amid laughter, Johnson chipped in: ‘Yes, definitely!’ adding: ‘We have been enjoying ourselves, despite appearances.’

Watch the jolly repartee here.

Opening the summit on Friday, Johnson urged fellow world leaders to ‘build back better’ after the Covid pandemic.

He said it was ‘vital that we don’t repeat the mistakes of the last great crisis – the last great economic recession of 2008 – when the recovery was not uniform across all parts of society’.
