Brisbane in Queensland, Australia, is set to host the 2032 Olympics.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) executive board has proposed the city as the preferred host after being named as the preferred bidder in February.

A final vote will be held next month to confirm the host city. Other cities that had expressed interest in hosting the Games included Ahmedabad in India, Indonesia’s Jakarta, and Doha in Qatar. The German state of North Rhine-Westphalia had also proposed hosting the Games in 13 different cities in the region.

The IOC President, Thomas Bach, said that the Brisbane bid was ‘irresistible’ as it had provided a vision for a ‘sustainable and feasible’ Games. In addition, 84% of the venues proposed by the Brisbane bid already exist or would be temporary.

The last time Australia hosted the Olympics was in 2000 when Sydney was the host.

The Olympics were postponed last year and are scheduled to be held later this year in Tokyo. The 2024 Games are to be held in Paris and 2028 will be in Los Angeles.
