Former President Jacob Zuma has been sentenced to 15 months in jail for contempt of court.

The Constitutional Court yesterday found the former President guilty, with Judge Sisi Khampepe reading out the judgement.

The judgement said Zuma had been fully aware of his actions when he defied a court order to attend the ongoing Zondo Commission of Enquiry into State Capture. It also said that there was no basis for Zuma’s claims that he had been treated unfairly.

The Court ruled that the former president has five days to hand himself in, either at Nkandla or in Johannesburg.

Zuma supporters rushed to his defence on Twitter, including disgraced former African National Congress spokesman, Carl Niehaus, and Ekurhuleni mayor, Mzwandile Masina.
