Dayniel Del Toro Mendez from Miami Florida was arrested last week by Gwinnett County Police in Georgia for allegedly selling live iguanas which he had secured with duct tape.

Police were informed of the attempted sale by a call from a resident concerned about potential animal abuse. Police followed up on the report, going to a parking lot where Mendez was allegedly found with his car boot open and 22 live iguanas inside with their legs duct-taped.

Police asked Mendez if he had a licence to sell the animals and, according to the police, he replied that he had no such license.

Animal control officers arrived to confiscate the animals and Mendez was taken into police custody on charges of cruelty to animals, receiving one charge for each iguana.

The iguanas were allegedly captured in Florida where they are listed as an invasive species, and trading these animals is illegal in the state.

Mendez was allegedly trying to sell the iguanas for $10 each.
