The latest census conducted in the United States shows that the population in that country has reached 331 million in 2020, an increase of 7.4% compared to 2010.

Much of the growth has been in the population of Hispanics in that country. In 2000 Hispanic-Americans accounted for 12.6% of the population, but two decades later nearly one-in-five Americans are from that ethnic group.

African-Americans also saw an increase in their population, reaching 24 million.

White Americans saw their share of the population drop and for the first time they make less than 60% of the population.

People who describe themselves as ‘multi-racial’ account for 10% of the American population, a large increase compared to 2010.

The census is politically important as population data is used to determine voting districts and how many representatives a state can send to the national legislature in Washington DC. However, some believe that as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic the census was not carried out correctly and a number of lawsuits may be filed to challenge the results.
