Employees of the online streaming service, Netflix, have picketed outside the company’s headquarters in Los Angeles.

The protest was in response to the company’s airing of the latest offering from comedian, Dave Chappelle.

Chappelle has been accused of being transphobic for his statements that sex is a biological fact and for his support for Harry Potter creator, JK Rowling, who has also been accused of transphobia for asserting biological sex is real.

It was reported that Chief Content Officer at Netflix, Ted Sarandos, had initially said in a staff memo that ‘content on screen doesn’t directly translate to real-world harm’. However, he subsequently said that internal communication should have been better and that he recognised that staff were ‘hurting’.

About 100 people protested outside the company’s offices, but it is not clear how many people were employees.

Chappelle has laughed off the criticism.
