Former US President Donald Trump has vowed to ‘stand up to the tyranny of big tech’ by launching a new social media network, to be called TRUTH Social.

Trump, an avid user of social media during his presidency, was banned from Twitter and suspended from Facebook after his supporters stormed the US Capitol earlier this year.

His earlier posts were often criticised as insulting, inflammatory or peddling outright falsehoods, the BBC reports.

An early version of his latest venture, TRUTH Social, will be open to invited guests next month, and will have a ‘nationwide rollout’ within the first three months of 2022, according to a statement by Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG).

Wrote Trump: ‘We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favourite American President has been silenced.’’

He added: ‘Everyone asks me why doesn’t someone stand up to Big Tech? Well, we will be soon!’
