Shaun Pollock, the former international cricketer and Proteas captain, has been inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.

The announcement was made on Saturday by the International Cricket Council, the sport’s global governing body.

Pollock joins a number of other South Africans who have previously been honoured in this way, including his uncle, Graeme Pollock, and Allan Donald and Jacques Kallis, who were Pollock’s teammates.

Barry Richards and Aubrey Faulkner are the other two South Africans in the ICC Hall of Fame.

Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene and Janette Brittin, of England’s women’s team, were also announced as new inductees on Saturday.

Pollock played 108 Tests for South Africa between 1995 and 2008, scoring nearly 4 000 runs and taking over 400 wickets. He also played over 300 one-day internationals.

He also captained South Africa in a tumultuous time for South African cricket, taking over from the disgraced Hansie Cronje, who was found guilty in a match-fixing scandal.
