Greece has said that over-60s who refuse to be vaccinated against Covid-19 will be fined €60 per month.

The announcement was made by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. From the middle of January next year people over the age of 60 who refuse to be vaccinated will have to pay a monthly fine of €60. The money will be used to fund the Greek healthcare system.

In a statement to the country’s cabinet Mitsotakis said: ‘Greeks over the age of 60… must book their appointment for a first jab by January 16.’  Their vaccination is henceforth compulsory.

Nearly two thirds of Greeks have been vaccinated against the virus.

Austria will also make vaccinations compulsory from next year, according to the BBC.
