The Ethiopian government has announced that secondary schools will be closed in the country. This is so students at these institutions can be roped in to help harvest crops for troops at the frontline.

Schools will be closed for a week, the education ministry said.

The ongoing war in Ethiopia has already seen about two million pupils in the Tigray region out of school.

The current conflict emerged due to tensions between the federal government and Tigray, and has now become a full-scale war. Last month Tigrayan troops seemed on the brink of capturing the capital, Addis Ababa, but it now seems that the government forces have managed to strike back, with Tigrayan forces making a number of strategic withdrawals.

The conflict threatens to become a broader regional war, with troops from Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia, and Sudan already assisting the various combatants in the conflict.
