South African passport holders can visit 104 countries without a visa, making it the 51st most powerful passport in the world in 2022.
This is according to the latest Henley Passport Index, released on Tuesday by Henley and Partners.
This is a slight improvement for the ‘Green Mamba’. In 2021 South Africans could visit 103 countries without the need for a visa.
The two most powerful passports in the world are the Japanese and Singaporean passports, which each allow access to 192 countries without a visa. The German and South Korean passports are the next two most powerful.
The weakest passport in the world is that issued by Afghanistan, which allows visa-free access to only 26 countries.
The only two African countries whose nationals have more visa-free access than South Africans are Mauritius and the Seychelles.
