Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana will present the national budget on 23 February 2022.

The finance ministry published an alert on Thursday, emphasising that this would be the minister’s “inaugural” statement.

In August 2021, Godongwana was appointed finance minister, succeeding Tito Mboweni, who had sought to resign.

The upcoming budget allocation aims to “strike a balance” between competing national expenditure goals, according to the finance ministry’s statement.

Godongwana has invited South Africans to submit budget recommendations, including what the government should spend, how to cope with a massive budget deficit, and potential new tax revenue sources, among other things.
