FIFA, the global governing body for football, has banned Zimbabwe and Kenya, because of governmental interference in the running of the sport.

In November the football boards of both Kenya and Zimbabwe were both disbanded by their respective governments. The Kenyan body was disbanded for alleged misappropriation of funds while Zimbabwe’s football board over allegations of fraud and alleged sexual harassment of female referees.

The governments of both countries were given deadlines of when they had to relinquish control of the sport but both countries missed these deadlines.

The ban means neither side can participate in any global or continental tournaments, with qualifying for the 2023 African Cup of Nations due to start in June.
