Four American soldiers have received “medical attention”, for “minor injuries” after a rocket attack on an American base in the east of Syria last week. Eastern Syria is a region controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces, a US ally responsible for much of the fighting against ISIS and which is seeking a more federal Syria.
The rocket attack is the first rocket attack on American forces since January. That attack was carried out by Iranian proxy groups and experts believe that this attack was likely carried out by the same forces.
The attack comes as the US seeks to re-enter a deal with Iran to halt Iran’s nuclear weapons programme, negotiations which have for the moment stalled as Iran demands ending of sanctions before they will sign any deal.
