About 65% of Africans have been infected with Covid-19. This was according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Although official numbers show a much lower rate of infection, a WHO study found that the true number of Covid cases on the continent was much higher, mainly due to a large number of cases where there were no symptoms.

In addition, the Covid-19 death rate was much lower than in other parts of the world. This was primarily because Africa’s population is, on average, younger than that in other regions in the world. Furthermore, fewer Africans suffered from health issues which heightened the risk of dying from Covid, such as diabetes or high blood pressure.
