The Australian state of Victoria is set to host the next edition of the Commonwealth Games, due to be held in 2026.

The state was announced as the host this week by the Commonwealth Games Federation.

The President of the Commonwealth Games Federation, Dame Louise Martin, said: ‘The Commonwealth Games Federation is absolutely delighted to award the 2026 Commonwealth Games to Victoria. Commonwealth Games Australia and the Victorian Government have set out a bold and innovative vision that provides an exciting new blueprint for hosting our major multi-sport event.’

No one city will host the Games, with events taking place across the state, a first for the Commonwealth Games.

Australia hosted the Games in 2018 when the Gold Coast in Queensland played host. This year’s edition will be held in Birmingham in the United Kingdom.
