Eskom says ‘breakdowns’ have necessitated Stage 2 load-shedding every evening for the next three days.

As of last evening, the load-shedding was to apply from 5pm until 10pm until Thursday because of a shortage of generation capacity.

The power utility said planned maintenance accounted for the unavailability of 5 232MW, while another 14 202MW of capacity was unavailable due to breakdowns.

‘Eskom cautions the public that as the shortage of generation capacity persists, the system will continue to be constrained with an elevated risk of load shedding over the coming weeks,’ it said in a statement.
