Emirates, the fourth-biggest airline in the world, will be suspending flights to Nigeria.

This is because the company has been unable to repatriate its money out of the country, as the Nigerian government has restricted access to foreign exchange.

The Dubai-based airline will stop flights from 1 September.

In a statement it said it had: ‘made considerable efforts to initiate dialogue with the relevant authorities for their urgent intervention to help find a viable solution.’

The International Air Transport Association said in June that Nigeria was holding on to $450 million which was owed to various airlines.
